Self-Directed Learning Experience

Introduction

For this self-directed learning opportunity, I sought an Instructional Designer badge via the IDOL Academy. I started the IDOL Academy in 2021 and completed the Learning Designer Badge at that time. Since then I've desired to complete the other certifications available, including the Instructional Designer badge.

As of 4/19/2024, I have passed evaluation to earn this credential by demonstrating my skill in developing an instructional design document that meets the rigorous standards expected from the IDOL Academy. The IDOL Academy supervisors evaluated my submission for context and rationale, needs and learner analysis, development strategy, course design, and assessment variety.

Self-Directed Learning Experience Reflection

There is undeniable value in earning this Instructional Design credential. It enhances my professional prospects, adds value to my existing portfolio, and the process of completing the instructional design document strengthened my skills in analysis and learning design. Furthermore, completing this badge demonstrates my ability to complete multiple certifications in a reputable Instructional Design trade school. I am proud to have completed this credential and plan to leverage it to reassure SMEs and other project stakeholders in my current place of employment that I am knowledgeable in the field of instructional design and can be trusted to design a thorough, focused, and comprehensive instructional design document.

Credential Earned

The badge has been issued by Credly, and is one of several badges available via the IDOL Academy. The Instructional Designer Badge is earned by demonstrating proficiency in instructional design with the creation of an  Instructional Design Document (IDD).

My IDD was evaluated by a team of IDOL Academy supervisors and earning the credential was determined in a pass/fail evaluation. My IDD detailed the entire analysis and design phase of an original learning solution, including a thorough needs assessment, clear and concise learning objectives, scripts, various assessment methods, and collaboration with stakeholders.

The supervisors have provided feedback in multiple stages of the project and determined my final submission demonstrated an in-depth understanding of instructional design principles.

Documentation

Evidence of the earned Instructional Designer badge can be found on my LinkedIn Profile under Licenses & Certifications.

I have attached the certificate from from Credly and IDOL Courses Academy as evidence of earning the credential.
